Class MDP 2027

Jackie is a Master of Development Practice Student at UC Berkeley. After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Political Science–International Relations from UC San Diego, she moved to Cebu, Philippines, intending to stay briefly but ultimately spending 11 years working alongside communities. She has worked across multiple areas of social development, including urban and rural development, biodiversity conservation, and disaster resilience.

She gained a deep appreciation of the role communication and advocacy play in development and has developed processes that bring community experiences into conversations with governments, partners, and decision-makers to ensure programs reflect local priorities.

Shaped by her own background as a Filipino-American, she is particularly interested in the role diaspora communities play in the sustainable development of their countries of origin. She hopes to better understand how transnational ties, knowledge exchange, and civic engagement can strengthen local and sustainable development.

Outside of school and work, she enjoys planning her next adventure, surfing, and cooking.
